My Inner Darkness, A Poem
Heeding the Warning
My Inner Darkness
I saw a replica of me
Standing in the mirror
She moved as she pleased
She looked happy
Comfortable in her own skin
The lights went dark
I tried to scream
Words were lost within me
A tapping sound betrayed
My inner peace
As lights flickered I saw
A new entity standing there
In the mirror
With vultures flying over
A warning for another time
“Don’t look back,” a voice sounded
Something compelled me to approach
The mirror before me
I touched through with metaphysical hands
Somehow courage welled up within me
As I grasped the dark being within the glass
One quick swipe made with my hand
Upon her mouth now silent
My chance for domination arrived
An opportunity to win the battle
Implantation of thought passed between us
As we fought to take over
Both couldn’t survive
Two worlds colliding
Each coveting control
Crashing my fist harshly upon the mirror
With no fear of future visitations
In destroying the glass
Power left her
And with that, she was gone
I saw her as my inner darkness
And had to say goodbye
For we could not co-exist
If I were to progress further
Keeping her warning vivid in my mind
I will not look back
And be warned
To stop dwelling in the past.
Turning toward a new path
I walk away
