Searching for Gratitude
a poem

The blondes want to be brunette
the short-haired want it long
and those curly cues leave the
straight-haired green with envy
The one swimming in the lake
wishes it were warmer
as the one in the pool grimaces
because of too much chlorine
while the one without either would
do anything for wrinkled feet
the luxury of water brings
So many search for something
different than their lot in life provides
and even when they finally get it
something more comes frolicking
through their minds
Maybe we could learn the treasure
gratitude promises to bring
with every day being a little brighter
because we aren’t comparing our lives
with other days full of other things
